RÜFÜS DU SOL Kick Off U.S. Tour at the Gorge

It was our first show for the season at the magnificent Gorge Amphitheater for the first U.S. stop of RÜFÜS DU SOL. The trio were back in the U.S. for their Inhale/Exhale tour starting at Washington’s most iconic venue, playing two sold-out nights. RÜFÜS DU SOL have spent more than a decade shaping the emotional core of modern electronic music, evolving from Sydney indiedance hopefuls into one of the most influential live electronic acts in the world. The trio consisting of Tyrone Lindqvist, Jon George, and James Hunt built their reputation on sweeping soundscapes, cathartic drops, and a rare ability to turn dance music into something deeply human. From their early breakout with Atlas to the global success of Bloom, Solace, and Surrender, their catalog has become a soundtrack to many moments that stay with you past the last note.

We arrived early for Maribou State who were a great new find. Known for their lush, organic blend of electronic production and live instrumentation, Maribou State brought a warm, atmospheric energy that drifted beautifully across the Gorge. Their set leaned into the textured, soulful sound they’ve honed on Portraits and Kingdoms in Colour, with deep grooves, layered percussion, and those signature vocal samples that feel both intimate and expansive. It was the kind of opening performance that doesn’t just warm up a crowd, it calibrates the entire night.

Half past nine the beat started and RÜFÜS DU SOL took their positions onstage raised by a few steps where they stood on the top. Lindqvist took over the night as our guide and his voice carried us through. I really enjoy listening to their music but hearing it live was something next level. I couldn’t imagine that it would have such an effect on me. It was an out of body experience elevated by the echo of the gorge and the beautiful view.

The setup seemed minimum but maximum at the same time as a truss structure equipped with lights stood in the front of the background screen working with it and complimenting it throughout the show. It was intense, it was serene, it was just perfect. RÜFÜS DU SOL took us to another dimension with their sound that took from their packed discography of massive hits and lesser-known fan favorites. My highlights included, “On My Knees,” “New Sky/Take Me,” “Levitating,” “Surrender,” and “Treat You Better.” “In the Moment” is a song that has been on so many of my playlists since its release and I find a new love for it every time someone releases a new remix of it. My favorite one is the Andriatique remix which is a perfect harmony between the two artists and always gets me going.

RÜFÜS finished their main set with the unrepeatable “Innerbloom” and as I was standing there taking it all in with my arms around people I love, time paused. Repeating the chorus and finishing with the words:

“If you want me,

if you need me,

I’m Yours.”

with the rest of the crowd was a bonding and fulfilling moment. This song truly can heal you. They returned for an encore with “Break My Love,” “No Place,” and “Music is Better/ Be With You,” leaving us all wanting so much more. We were filled with so many emotions that brought bliss and inner peace after leaving the Gorge. Once again proving that seeing a show here is something beyond special.
