Shakey Graves Enchants the Paramount
It’s been a while since we’ve caught Shakey Graves live so we were really excited heading downtown to Seattle’s historic Paramount Theater. Getting to catch shows there is always special and Alejandro Rose-Garcia would be no exception. The tour stop was a part of supporting his fourth record, Movie of the Week, released last month. Opening the show were Flipturn who have been creating buzz with their debur release, Shadowglow.
The stage was simple and Shakey Graves started his set standing alone fort the first couple songs. The Texan played his guitar and then moved towards the back to stand in front of his modified suitcase that functioned as both a kick drum and tambourine. It felt intimate and genuine as he stood there singing to us as if we were his best friends.
Rose-Garcia stopped afterwards to introduce himself sharing that he’s from Austin, Texas and thanked everyone for being there, especially those who came out to the much smaller venues they started from and stuck around. He said that it never mattered how large the spaces got but it always mattered who the people were filling them up in support.
After the two songs the rest of his band joined him for the rest of the set. People were attentively showing their enthusiasm singing along to the hits. Rose-Garcia‘s messages on love and heartbreak felt like an invitation for everyone standing there to explore their own emotions and feelings. The show tonight demonstrated once more why you shouldn’t miss his performance when he’s in your town.
Highlights included: “Counting Sheep,” “Ready or Not,” “Tomorrow,” “Dearly Departed.”
