Sasquatch! 2018 Review

It was time for the yearly pilgrimage to Sasquatch! Music Festival to begin and we were thrilled to pack our summer clothes and head over to one of the best outdoor venues in the world. It was the second year the festival decided to cut down to three days and this still felt like a better choice than before making it a little easier to stay for the duration.

The sun was out most of the weekend and it was such a great time to combine some of our favorite music acts with the warm weather. The four stages had fans running around making sure to catch their top picks and discovering some new music. Favorite performances included Wolf Parade, Lemaitre, NAO, Bon Iver, Girlpool, Japandroids, Modest Mouse, Typhoon, Big Thief, Anderson .Paak, What So Not, below are some of our favorites from this year’s fest.

Lizzo

Packed the main stage and brought her dance moves with her creating a party in the middle of the day. Worth all the hype we’ve been hearing about her and the show she’s been putting on. Can’t wait to catch her when she returns with Florence and the Machine in September.

Spoon

As the sun went down over the beautiful gorge Spoon tore up the main stage and reassured why they are so good to catch live. We caught them here a few years ago and their set was absolute killer this time around.

Vince Staples

Another main act that has come a long way in the last few years creating a massive following. This man is so talented and he proves it every time he jumps on stage demanding nothing but your absolute attention.

Tash Sultana

The multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist has been creating so much buzz in the last year and her full length is not even out yet. She took the Bigfoot stage solo taking the audience on a musical journey, where everyone get lost in her jam sessions.

David Byrne

The man is already a legend with Talking Heads and his solo career and his set was incredibly creative yet simple. His whole band wore the same outfits while he was barefoot dancing around to choreographed routines. From a distance they looked like puppets moving around fluidly on the dance floor.

The National

Even though all three headliners were more on the calmer side this year we enjoyed the all. Something though about the National was more entertaining for us. Not sure if it was Matt Berninger‘s sense of humor or just his easy going banter that made us feel closer to him, but it was a magical performance.

Japanese Breakfast

The band probably had the largest crowd we saw at the Yeti stage all weekend proving that their non-stop touring over the last year has been worth it. This is one of our favorite acts from the past year and we don’t miss a chance to see them play live. Looks like many others caught on to this as well having them playing the Neptune when they return in the fall.

Thunderpussy

Who can deny our own power rock-n-roll band? We all celebrated their debut release on Friday with another memorable performance. No matter how many times we catch these ladies perform it is never enough. I don’t know how but it just keeps getting better and better. They are off touring and we couldn’t be happier to share them with the rest of the world.

Perfume Genius

His afternoon set was one of the most anticipated over the weekend and he dominated the Bigfoot stage. Something about this performance was so breathtaking we still can’t stop thinking about it. The music and movement have a way of disarming you and you’re just left there completely wide open staring at the beauty that is Perfume Genius.

Slowdive

Who has not fallen in love with this band after seeing them live? We were looking forward to this set and it was nothing but magic from start to finish. Their music is perfect for the setting and mood of the Gorge and it was a great way to take a moment and enjoy. The fact that Rachel Goswell was finished with her vocals at the end and waited for her band to finish up at side stage so they could all leave the stage together was one of the sweetest things we saw all weekend.
