Gabriel Wolfchild & The Northern Light Review

It was going to be an intimate show night at The Crocodile and we couldn’t wait for the music to begin. Tonight friends and fans gathered for Gabriel Wolfchild & The Northern Light’s the Mornings Like These EP release party. The show was also live streamed for people to catch online in case they couldn’t make it to the venue.

The night started with local artist Olivia De La Cruz, singing tunes from her self-titled release showcasing her soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics. The night continued with Rory Van James and his band that kept the indie/folk mood going in the room. The calm, soothing guitar arrangements along with the violin created a magical atmosphere the crowd enjoyed.

Keyboardist/vocalist Jen Monete opened the main act’s set a capella with “Mornings Like These” as Wolfchild joined in shortly playing his bowed guitar. The band played all six songs from their new EP as well as “Blackbird” from debut, A Cry To The Moon. The follow up EP introduces The Northern Light as Wolfchild’s collaborators but continues on the dynamic storytelling and poetic content he’s known for.

The stage was set up with a few spots of Edison lightbulbs to create the ethereal mood to accompany the soft music. It was cool to see the Croc with the added lights which completely complemented the sound so much. Wolfchild stopped a few times to chat with the fans and shared some wisdom with us. Before starting “Dreamers”, his message was “It’s your life, do what you want with it”, to show that you must follow what your heart tells you even if others tell you otherwise.

He had a few of his friends come up on stage for the end “Song for a Traveler”, as he eloquently put, “This is our last song, because time doesn’t stand still”. During the encore had the band come out and ask the audience to sit down as they stood in the middle of the floor creating a drum circle. It was a very nice end to a very unique concert, showing us all how much we are connected through art. Wolfchild and his band put on a great show tonight.
