G Flip brings Drummer to sold-out Neumos
We knew we were in for a treat when we made our way into the sold-out Neumos for the G Flip show in Seattle. Last time the popular Australian artist came through it was last year opening for Fletcher and their set made waves. Since then, they’ve released a new record, Drummer, and are now on their first headlining tour in the U.S. playing to mostly sold-out audiences.
There was a huge banner in the background that had a couple of pictures of G Flip along with their name on the top going across the stage and the album credits down the middle of the banner. G Flip came to the stage as fans screamed their name and started their set with a drum solo intro. After that they played tracks “7 Days,” “Hyperfine,” and “Baked.” They quickly made their way into the crowd by jumping into the pit and singing along with all their adoring fans.
After a couple tunes, G Flip stopped to say hello to everyone and to lay down the rules of their show tonight, which included, no dickheads, thanking people that suffer for anxiety and or depression and acknowledging how hard it is to come out to these situations and appreciating them for doing so for their show, and of course having a good time.
The show seemed to constantly change making it very interesting and fun. It felt like we went to a few different events all in one night, making the performance constantly intriguing and captivating our attention. G Flip was either singing and moving around on stage, on the drums, in the crowd, playing the piano, jumping around, or playing the guitar. One of the highlights was definitely when they played “Australia.” They taught the crowd to sing the chorus of the song, which I don’t think they needed any help with, and when we got to it during the song it felt like one big sing-along that we won’t forget anytime soon.
Towards the end of their set, we did have someone faint in the crowd and G Flip stopped the show for more than 10 minutes to actually make sure that this person was okay and taken care of and to make sure that no one else needed help. That seemed genuinely nice and it was great that she stopped to check on their fans. G went on to play “Be Your Man” and talked about their wife and how happy they were to get to meet them in San Francisco very soon.
For their encore, they return to play “Lover,” on drums and then gave a dedicated fan one of their t-shirts and continued with “Worst Person Alive.” The energy went up a level for their last track as G finished with hit “Gay 4 Me,” which they also mixed in Ginuwine’s “Pony,” at the end. G Flip knows how to throw a good show and how to keep the fans going for the duration of their set as there wasn’t a dull moment at their show. This was a very fun set, and we can’t wait for them to come back and see them again, do not miss the show if you’re near them.
