Cold War Kids at Moore Theater

We headed down to the beautiful Moore theater downtown Seattle to celebrate the Cold War Kids return in town for their 20th year tour. The band which formed in 2004 currently consists of members Nathan Willett (vocals, piano, guitar), Matt Maust (bass guitar), David Quon (guitar, backing vocals), Matthew Schwartz (keyboards, backing vocals, guitar, percussion), and Joe Plummer (drums, percussion). They’ve been making good music for a couple of decades and their latest self-titled tenth record was released last November.

The night started off with another good band to discover, Hovvdy who played a few songs from their catalog including new single, “Forever.” Their new self-titled record will be released in April this year so that’s something to mark on our calendars. We really enjoyed listening to the band warm up the crowd and I’m sure they’ll be back to support their own music son enough.

The main floor at the Moore tonight was GA so people could sit anywhere they wanted or stand in the front which was really close to the stage. The Cold War Kids took the stage a little past nine and fans were ready to integrate themselves into the show. Opened with “You Already Know,” and favorites, “Miracle Mile,” and “So Tired Up.”

Lead singer Nathan Willett commanded the room as he interacted with the fans up close and in the room. All the band was feeling the show in Seattle but mostly noticed bassist Matt Maust giving it a little more passion. When the band played their big hit, “Hang Me Up To Dry,” it became a sing along as you would expect, and it probably brought many to a different place and time.

The main set continued with many fan favorites and ended with hit “First” as the audience enthusiastically clapped to bring back the band. CWK returned for their encore with “All This Could Be Yours,” and ended with “Something Is Not Right With Me,” from 2018’s This Will All Blow Over In Time. It had been a while since we last saw them and this was a good show to catch as the band is completely in tune with their sound and live performances. If they come around your town, make sure to catch them live.
