Cannons bring Heartbeat Highway to Seattle

We headed to the Showbox Market downtown for one of the most anticipated shows in our August calendar. Cannons has taken much of our summer playlists over and their tunes keep gaining more and more likes. Their ethereal sound and heartfelt lyrics keep captivating fans all over the world and we couldn’t wait to take it all it. Their tour just kicked off in Portland and Seattle was getting two sold out performances for the Heartbeat Highway tour. The band formed in 2013 consists of lead vocalist Michelle Joy, guitarist Ryan Clapham, and keyboardist/bassist Paul Davis.

The band took the stage a little after ten as fans cheered them on. Their set kicked off with “Shadows,” “Come Alive,” and “Talk Talk,” as Michelle Joy danced around in a magical disco like dress. Joy stopped a few times to chat with the audience and thanking them for coming out. She noted that they’d be making music for 10 years and that this was their first headlining tour, and they were so thankful for the two sold out nights in Seattle. She then welcomed everyone to the tour which is named after their soon to be released fourth record. They played new song after that named, “Sweeter.”

After a very uplifting “Hurricane,” the band took it down a little as Joy came to the front of the stage and sat on a stool, saying that this was about waking up and coming home to yourself, and played “Lighting.” The band was constantly engaging with the crows making it feel like a living room show that brought people together. Joy went into the pit for “Spells,” singing to the excited folks who were thoroughly enjoying the night.

The main set ended on a high note with popular tracks, “Loving You,” and “Fire For You,” as the band gave it their all and the fans were right there with them singing along. The four-piece returned for their encore playing new song, “Desire,” and ending with “Evening Star,” where Joy asked everyone to light up the room with their phone flashlights to create stars. It was the perfect way to end the fairytale we all were narrated tonight by this great band. We can’t wait for them to come back again!
