SOFI TUKKER Celebrate 1 Year of Livestreams
SOFI TUKKER will celebrate the one-year anniversary of their livestream on March 12th beginning at 1 PM ET on their Twitch and Facebook channels. The group will do a 90-minute set and will then raid into Sophie’s solo set for Femme House Fridays. At the very start of quarantine, the group did an impromptu livestream and enjoyed it so much they committed to doing them daily during the pandemic.
The DJ sets are hybrids involving live vocals and instrumentation and have an improvisational nature that allows them to develop and test unreleased material. The sets also allowed the group to have regular interactions and a closer relationship with their audience and a community evolved out of the streams that dubbed itself the “Freak Fam”. The wildly popular livestreams led to SOFI TUKKER being the second most livestreamed artists in 2020 according to Pollstar. SOFI TUKKER encourage the Freak Fam to dress in their favorite animal attire for the anniversary set.
At the start of the livestreams, no one could have imagined how long the pandemic would last. After doing hundreds of daily sets, SOFI TUKKER wanted to share their platform and highlight some of the artists in their community and ones that inspire them. They have curated a series of residencies and special one-off sets on their Twitch and Facebook where the Freak Fam and these artists can revel together.
In March, the group welcomed Icona Pop, UNIIQU3, HANA, QRTR, Rocket Pengwin, Dipha Barus, Mahmut Orhan, and Callie Reiff. Since the start of the pandemic their stream has been something we follow, and it has helped build a strong community with the Freak Fam in this weird time of our life. It means a lot more than many of us can share to be able to have their space as something stable when everything seemed to be placed on pause.
