SOFI TUKKER bring the Bread Tour to Seattle

There are always some shows that we look forward to more than others. SOFI TUKKER is one of them. Ever since we caught their set at the Crocodile back in 2017 we have been fans, and the duo only keeps getting better. Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern were in Seattle supporting their third record, Bread. After the success of “Drinkee” they have managed to land more hits and have created a formula to keep growing. We enjoy their music and their live shows, and we know it’s going to be a good time. Last time we saw them at a sold-out Paramount Theater and now to the next venue upgrade, WaMu Theater holding even more people.

We got there early enough to get the Shermanology set which most memorably played the classic dance anthem, “Fired Up.” No matter how many years pass by, hearing that tune brings up the time in my teens that I heard it. With that the person I was fired up about. The duo played some remixes and got the crowd going.

When it was time for the main act to take the floor, we studied their stage a little closer. There were a few columns on the floor with the largest one in the middle with an arch that would also light up as part of the show. On top of the columns there were the laser beams that went off heavy during the show, creating the club vibe needed. There was also a trampoline that helped replace their original tree which stood in the middle of their first shows. This was connected to the sound and they both used it throughout the show to add sounds.

They kicked off with “Bread,” “Best Friend,” and “Summer in New York,” kicking off the show on a very high note. People were ready to dance and dance and that didn’t stop at all. Sophie’s guitar strings were different colors as we looked closer matching the multiple rainbow-colored tattoos on Tucker’s arms. Tucker’s signature yellow chain was in rainbow colors around his neck. The pair was dressed in white themed clothes with Tucker wearing one of his vests on top of a bread t-shirt. A large chain wrapped around the side of his pants and from what we could see a couple of pieces of plastic bread were hanging on them. Sophie’s white outfit was enhanced by silver details.

Before going into “Throw Some Ass,” the pair chatted and shared some humor as the Bobs guided the crowd into some choreography so we could dance along. The funnest part here was having everyone turn around and follow the routine. This is another reason we like their shows, they are fun, and you have to remember you can’t take yourself too seriously.

Bob’s Dance Shop were there helping with the choreography and adding their elements throughout the show. We saw them last time as well at the Paramount and this has now been a part of the SF show. The duo brought some fans up to dance with them and this was also a highlight as with this being a day before Halloween many fans were dressed up as the pair. The best part is that after the young fans left the stage, they brought out a man who had dressed up as Tucker from the Bread cover. The kick here was that he was wearing assless white pants that we all laughed about. Best costume.

After many songs and a lot of dancing for everyone another memorable song was “Woof.” Prior to starting this one Tucker divided the crowd left and right and told them to lean when he said the words, ‘Hey.’ This was such a moment because every time the crowd leaned in the different directions it looked so cool and cohesive. Does it get any more fun? The answer with SOFI TUKKER is always, Yes!

During their track “Renaissance” you could hear their mix of the White Lotus theme in the background that all tied in together perfectly. When the song almost ended you could hear Jennifer Coolidge‘s voice speaking and saying that she loves Sofi Tukker which was pretty iconic. SF ended their main set with biggest hit, “Purple Hat” as Tucker danced around singing the words and Sophie played the killer riff on her colorful guitar strings. There was not a single person in the room not dancing tonight, that’s projecting energy and being able to control the room in a great way.

The best friends returned to the stage to play “Brazilian Soul,” their track with pals, The Knocks. This was a little more on the slower side with Sophie playing her acoustic guitar. The incredible show ended with our favorite, “Drinkee” that still holds a special place in our soul. I can’t believe this was the first track they wrote together and that it was so magical from the start. The iconic riff like no other, the beat, the Portuguese singing, the way the song gets you going. Absolute genius. I don’t think another duo is having so much fun playing shows together. You can feel their connection and that it’s genuine which shows in the way the night goes on. They love what they do, and they have a great time performing for people. Never a dull moment, always finding ways to create a better live set. Always a must see when they come through.
