Saint Motel and Kolars Ignite Showbox Market
We headed out to the Showbox Market for Kolars and Saint Motel and as we drove through downtown we noticed the big shift in people out due to the COVID-19 virus. We didn’t know if the venue would be empty or not but we figured that if the show wasn’t cancelled we were going. When we entered the venue we noticed that the place was actually pretty full already and were delighted to see people out. Many have been waiting for new music from Saint Motel since their last album back in 2016, Saintmotelevision. We were happy to hear songs from their latest EP, The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack: Part 1.
First up was another great band we surprisingly saw on the bill last minute, Kolars. The amazing sound of Rob Kolar and Lauren Brown took the Market by storm. Everyone was looking around wondering why they had never heard of this band before. Brown’s unique tap dancing drumming setup always grabs people’s attention and Kolar’s guitar riffs leaves people wanting more. Check out their newest single “Here Comes the Night,” and make sure you catch them live.
After the quick set change it was time for the main act to take the floor. The background had the old film take logo as it appears on the cover of their latest EP. Much of this night would be based around film and integrating that into their live performance. The band took the stage with astonishing energy ready to put on a great show starting with “Cold Cold Man,” and “For Elise.”
By the third song lead singer AJ Jackson would already be running around the venue climbing on chairs and dancing with the people. It’s been a while and I’ve almost forgotten just how much fun their live shows really are. The night was moving fast as we danced more and more and the sold out place was starting to move all together in the pit. Jackson has an incredible gift and he shines every time he takes the stage infecting people with his aura.
One of my favorite moments was “Move,” that was an incredible dance party that we didn’t even realize we needed. By the time their main set ended with “Born Again,” everyone was in a better mood than what we started off. They came back and finished the night with “Butch,” “Van Horn,” and major hit “My Type.” There is never a dull moment at one of Saint Motel’s live shows and if you’re lucky enough, you’ve experienced this on your own.
