Po’ Brothers/Lanford Black/The Good Wives/Ayron Jones at the Croc
The night at the Crocodile started with one of our favorite locals, Ayron Jones, who played a solo acoustic set tonight. These always feel very intimate and special when they occur as they showcase Jones’ talent and ability to captivate the audience as a one man performer. His smoky voice and exceptional skills on the guitar have earned him respect and buzz nation-wide. We all wait in anticipation for his sophomore album “Audio Paint Job“, which is due to be released next year.
The next band up on stage was The Good Wives who released their debut album “Robot Island” in September, which became one of our favorite local records of the year. Lead singer, Jacob Bruggman, provided the mood with his soft, distinctive vocals as explosive guitar riffs began to take over the night. Nicholas Alexander and Shane Berg both displayed their skills as guitar and bass players while Brent Nelson took over on the drums.
The band had really good chemistry and it was very apparent that they were enjoying themselves on stage. Highlight of the performance was “Lonely Again“, which was powered by some serious guitar hooks that were stuck in our heads long after the show was done. These guys are a great band to see live not only because they are talented but because of the positivity projecting the whole time they play.
Lanford Black followed with an energetic set of their own sharing some new tunes with us as well songs from their “Peppermint” EP. The hypnotic vocals and rock sound are very reminiscent of Kings of Leon and it was an impressive live show. Their next live is coming up in January at the Tractor and it’s worth the trip to Ballard, these guys are good.
The night ended with Po’ Brothers, short for Poor Brothers, who formed in Indiana before relocating to Seattle. A couple of band members showed their holiday spirit by wearing Christmas sweaters on stage. Lead singer Collin Curry, had the funniest one which showed a few gingerbread men on it with the words Squad Goals. The alt-rock band will be releasing their first full length in 2017 and we can’t wait to get our hands on it. Their set flowed very smoothly and it was very easy to just sit back and enjoy them play. This was a great night to check out the latest local talent in the city.
