OK Go at Neptune Theater
The night was about to get very exciting for concertgoers at Seattle’s Neptune Theater. OK Go were in town supporting And the Adjacent Possible, their first new studio album in 10 years. The band composed of Damian Kulash, Tim Nordwind, Dan Konopka, and Andy Ross, returned to the city ready to entertain their eager fans.

A little after nine the band took the stage and was in full force starting the night with “Impulse Purchase,” “This Too Shall Pass,” and “Get Over It.” Kulash‘s contagious energy filled the room and set the mood for the rest of the show. Before the first song was even over, he was already jumping into the pit to join the crowd. He sang in the middle of the floor as the people circled around him and the confetti flew high in the air. We did notice many kids in attendance, and they absolutely loved being there. Kulash mentioned that they had cameras around the venue and that they were streaming live to children’s hospitals. He would stop and dedicate songs to specific kids watching live which was so nice to see.

OK Go is also known for their experimenting and original groundbreaking music videos throughout the years testing the boundaries of creativity. My favorite one is their zero-gravity masterpiece for “Upside Down & Inside Out,” which is still phenomenal almost 10 years later. What a perfectly crafted piece of art that they executed flawlessly. It’s been such a great thing to see them explore their creative ideas in a variety of mediums and to see how they evolve.

The show was filled with different aspects which made it exciting and fun to watch. For “Shooting the Moon,” the band stood in the front of the stage where hand bells were set on a large table, and they played it with those. Then Kulash went into the crowd and played “This is How It Ends,” standing on a pedestal playing his guitar alone. These two moments brought the room together as people attentively watched. The lighting design was playful and captured the bands creating eye matching the songs. The confetti was endless making sure that fun was present.

The band also managed to play a splendid cover of The La‘s “Here She Goes,” when they returned for their encore. Their show finished with “A Stone Only Rolls Downhill,” and “The One Moment.” The performance was entertaining from start to finish and we’re happy we could attend it. They are definitely a band you have to catch live in order to take it all in and have some fun.
