OFF! at Chop Suey
We were thrilled to check out OFF! at the Chop Suey in support of their latest record. The sold out show attracted dedicated fans that filled the space to see the band, playing new songs after 8 years. Their third record, Free LSD, follows the same motif as their previous tunes the way we like them. Short, intense, hard rock, punk songs.
The band formed in 2009 by Circle Jerks/Black Flag front man Keith Morris, and guitarist Dimitri Coats was in town featuring a new lineup that included drummer Justin Brown, (Herbie Hancock/Thundercat), and bassist Autry Fulbright II, (…And You Will Know Us By The Trail of the Dead). The album was written alongside a feature film – a punk sci-fi midnight movie thriller that unpacks how the band and album is part of an alien conspiracy – that is set to start hitting film festivals early next year.
The crowd wasted no time matching the band’s intensity from Morris‘ first words. It continued the same way for all of their set that was moshing, crowd surfing, head banging, and screaming filled. This is one band you have to catch live to understand just how good it is. They give it their all from start to finish and hold nothing back in the name of punk.
