Ever-So-Android/Hobosexual/Wild Powwers/Sundries Overtake Neumos
While most of Seattle was busy attending Bumbershoot on Friday night I was excited to skip and hop over to Neumos to see a bill filled with amazing local acts. It was my first time seeing all of them but was very familiar with the incredible tunes they create. Each band has its own music character and an amazing stage presence that is only accompanied with a loud sound that you only dream of.
The night started with Sundries that is fronted by the soulful, enchanting voice of Sadie Ava. Leah Julius is behind the drums and we always enjoy seeing her in any musical capacity we can. She is due to record an album next with Thunderpussy playing the bass. The stings for the band are completed with Ben Lindbloom and Travis Gillett. Seeing them live only left us wanting more making that 30 minutes very short. Take a listen to “The Wave”, “Saturday Night”, and “Sky to Change” that are some of my favorites.
Wild Powwers has been on my to-see list for a while now and after seeing them tonight, I was upset I waited so long. It got loud. It got really loud. I liked it. The fury of Lupe Flores playing the drums can only be compared to greatness. It’s a little hard to take your eyes of her as every hit awakens your soul and makes your heart pound harder and harder. Lara Hilgeman is aligned perfectly into the vocals, sometimes it’s hard to tell who is singing. She captivates with her lingering voice and strong riffs while Jordan Gomes completes with his bass. Enjoyed EVERY second. Take a listen to their new album “Hugs and Kisses and Other Things”.
Things happened during Hobosexual’s set that made my heart happy. Absolutely powered by vocals, long guitar riffs and solos by Ben Harwood, and thundering drumming by Jeff Silva. The two of them took the stage and made it their b**ch!! I meant BITCH!! Ben even took his guitar for a walk down on the floor as he played it through the crowd on his back. Getting back on the stage he sat it on the ground which another shredzilla, Whitney Petty (Thunderpussy) got a hold of and picked a few notes. It was a glorious moment to be a part of and see how excited everyone got over it. Absolutely rocked IT.
We enjoyed so much already and we still had one more amazing band to relish before we left. It was after all Ever So Android’s record release night and we couldn’t be more thrilled. “The Civil” is out now and you should own it. From the moment Hope Simpson took the floor and sang the first notes we fell in love. She is constantly moving around demanding your absolute attention and you are more than happy to oblige. Drew Murray looks like a total boss playing the guitar and rocking out. The band has gathered so much deserved buzz for their live performances and I can see why. Favorite tunes include “Leash”, “Inferno”, “Oblivion”, and new “Sons and Daughters”.
