Miya Folick mesmerizes Madame Lou’s
The talented Miya Folick was back in Seattle to perform at Madame Lou’s. We’ve been huge fans since the release of her debut album, Premonitions, and have seen her a few times touring around the city. Back at it with the fresh tunes from new EP, 2007, we were ready to let her melodic harmonies take us over for the night.
The room was packed on this Saturday night with Julia Jacklin also playing a show at the venue above with many people out and about. We even spotted local celeb Aramis Johnson there, the lead singer of Enumclaw band. Folick took the stage smiling and started with “Deadbody,” showcasing that this night will be full of emotion. She shortly then noticed that her guitarist was out, so they had to stop for a few moments to get that fixed. She made small talk about her day starting with running in Portland and eating a delicious scone.
Once everything was back up she started again with the bridge of the song bringing the mood back to where she wanted it to be. This was the last show of this leg for her so felt like a special night with much banter and laughter. It was nice to be a part of a smaller room and being able to be present the whole time through.
After she played “2007,” she went on to play a new unreleased track named, “Cockroach,” that left everyone standing in the room with amazement. After a few tracks she called out Haley from openers Absinthe Father, for a beautiful duet “Talking With Strangers.” The main set ended with the powerful “Get Out of My House,” that left everyone standing still in awe.
When she came back for the encore her and her band finished with “Oh God,” and probably biggest hit, “Thingamajig.” As she sang the words, ‘Take it all I want to be out of control,’ we all felt the strength of the moment in our bones. Such an incredible way to end such a wonderful night with Folick, she always captivates us more than we can control.
