Mitski brings Laurel Hell to the Moore
Since the first time we saw Mitski at The Crocodile we immediately became enamored by her artistic power. There is something so special about what she creates on stage that keeps you glued to her. It seems like the whole world has figured this out over the last few years and her latest album, Laurel Hell, has skyrocketed her into the popular cosmos. It’s on our top releases for the year and we couldn’t wait to see her show at the historic Moore Theater, which she played two days.
In the middle of the stage stood a white door but Mitski didn’t use that as her entrance, instead she started her set “Love Me More,” by walking in from the side stage. Her demanding presence wasted no time connecting and intriguing her audience. She continued with favorites “Francis Forever,” “First Love/Late Spring,” and played a long set which included “Nobody,” “Your Best American Girl,” and “Geyser.”
I believe that the most captivating part of her performances is that she incorporates a dancing/theatrical element which completely ties the whole show together. The way she moved while her white dress swayed back and forth seemed like it was all part of the song, creatively interpreting the sound. We couldn’t get enough of her and she didn’t make us wait too long for her to return for an encore. After the final tune of the night “Two Slow Dancers,” she gave a few bows and exited from door in the middle. She closed the door behind her, with that ending her magical performance.
