Metallica – WorldWired Tour at Century Link Stadium
Century Link Stadium was in for a treat as the excited fans awaited their favorites Metallica to take the stage. The evening kicked off with Gojira and Avenged Sevenfold, and the music just got louder and louder. The WorldWired Tour was one of the most anticipated this summer as the band is still going strong 36 years later. That is something to brag about and something that many metal bands can only dream of becoming.
The huge stage towered on the floor of the Clink with large screen panels and at the end of each side and signature M and A were displayed. The lights turned off and it was time for the legendary band to take the stage, kicking off the show with new, “Hardwired”, and “Atlas, Rise!.” James Hetfield took his battle stance in the front changing a number of different guitars, never missing a beat. Lars Ulrich, the other founding member pounded on the drums and even had a couple of solos as fans screamed in ecstasy.
Right from the start the show proved worthy of stadium status as the pyro, insane lights, visuals and fireworks, which closed the night, created the mood the band was known for. Guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo moved back and forth from one side to the other intensely playing their instruments. Fans were constantly singing along to the songs, jumping around, moshing on the floor, and enjoying the experience. The age was very diverse as even Hetfield stopped to point out a young fan only 10 years old right in the front row with his parents.
The band played a few of the last songs from the top of the catwalk which ended with “Seek & Destroy”, that became a massive sing along that created the loudest echo from all the fans in the stadium. That is something we’ll never forget. For the encore the masters returned for “Battery”, and favorites, “Nothing Else Matters”, and “Enter Sandman.” This concert was so much more than we expected and probably did not deserve on a Wednesday night. We can’t believe that after so many years these guys still go so hard making it a unique experience for their fans. It doesn’t matter if it was your first time or your twentieth, they treat everyone as part of their Metallica family and are inclusive to all. They make sure you rock out and leave all the bs behind, even if it is for a few hours.
