Margo Price and Lola Kirke at the Showbox
We’ve been waiting to check out Margo Price and the night was finally upon us to head to the historic Showbox Market to enjoy her “Til the Wheels Fall Off Tour.” The country star has been rising since she entered the scene receiving much praise and admiration. With the release of her fourth record, Strays, she has established herself even further as the next star to come out of Nashville.
The night started with Lola Kirke, the already well-known actress, who released her second record last year, Lady for Sale. The red lights illuminated her set, and she charmed the crowd with her voice and tunes. Her set was very enjoyable, and highlights included “By Your Side,” “Broken Families,” “Pink Sky,” and “Lady for Sale.” Kirke also did a kind of unexpected cover of Foreigner‘s “I Want To Know What Love Is,” that she absolutely transformed as her own. This was a nice addition to the night and very well paired with Price’s tour.
It was time for Margo Price to take the stage and fans were patiently anticipating the start. Her set kicked off with “Been to the Mountain,” and “Letting Me Down,” “Four Years of Chances,” and then a cover of Jefferson Airplane‘s “White Rabbit,” which she was joined by Benny Jenkins on trumpet. Price took over the drums throughout the night for “Change of Heart,” Elvis Costello’s cover, “Pump It Up,” and “That’s How Rumors Get Started,” and it was cool to see her get into that role.
Before playing “Strays” she acknowledged her husband Jeremy Ivey on stage who is also her guitarist and songwriting partner. Price changed into a sequin bodysuit after Rumors, and returned for the very appropriately dressed, “Twinkle Twinkle.” She was very charismatic and kept the crowd constantly intrigued for the longevity of her performance. After being a part of the magical night, we can see why everyone is so enamored with the talented country star.
