LP enchants the Paramount Seattle
After a couple of rescheduled dates, we finally headed to the Paramount Theater to enjoy the talented LP. It had been three years since our last encounter at Showbox SoDo and we were thrilled to hear tracks off their sixth record, Churches. LP is known for their committed fans around the world and devoted followers that hang by their every word. We were expecting to see the same here in Seattle.
The evening kicked off with Nick Leng who played tunes from their debut, LEMONS. The crowd was captivated by the vibe of the South African musician who later on joined LP on stage as well for a song. Little after nine the lights turned off and LP’s voice was heard on the speakers as the intro to “When We Touch” started. The singer stepped onto the middle of the stage wearing all black clothes along with a black fedora smiling at their fans. Another new song, “Goodbye,” followed as the lights flashed behind them. Then the hit, “Girls Gone Wild,” was next and fans were seen singing along in the audience. LP also grabbed the cellphones of a few people throughout the night and recorded the scene around before giving it back.
LP‘s voice was the focus of the show as they displayed their many scales along with their impeccable talent to whistle. There is nothing left to do but to completely tune out the rest of the world and let their voice carry you away. The words hit so close to the heart sometimes you think LP has specifically written a song just for your life experience. This is perhaps why they connect with so many people around the world, the power to communicate what we’ve all wanted to say in our relationships, romantic or not.
After hearing most of our favorite songs the main set ended with the very high energy song, “One Last Time,” which everyone sang along and clapped to. This is my favorite tune off the new record, it’s so catchy and it sounds like a soundtrack song to an nostalgic movie. Maybe it’s just the song to best describe your life, who really knows, the truth is it helps with letting go of what doesn’t matter and to focus on the important things. They returned for the hit, “Lost On You,” that brought LP to the mainstream years ago, which is still a fan favorite. The night was so magical, LP created a wonderful place we all felt we belonged and most of the night felt more like they were in our living room consoling us for the loves we’ve lost.
