Los Bitchos & Weep Wave at Tractor
I arrived at the Tractor Tavern on a Thursday evening after a long day and a while since I had been to a show. I’ve been laying low and working harder to keep up with the economy as well as processing the current condition of the world. To say the least, I’ve been under the weather. Despite the general dissociation, Weep Wave jolted me out of my malaise. In support of Los Bitchos, Seattle’s very own Weep Wave pulled me through a wormhole between matrixes (for the better). The upbeat and charged locals spoon fed us droning resonance that felt thick and smoggy. The three piece has been on the PNW scene for a few years now, spotted around town at different hot spot venues. It was such a great set and I’ll be watching for the next Weep Wave headliner.
After the set change, Los Bitchos pranced into focus. The London-based all women band was closing their tour in support of their debut album Let The Festivities Begin!. These women have been causing quite the stir amongst some monster names like SXSW, Rolling Stone, KEXP and NME. The room was filled with an infectious charisma I have not seen in a while. As they danced together in sync, each played an instrument of their own. Each individual’s sound remained strung together as the guitar took lead, the rest of the group responding in a variation of canons. You can tell by the energy exchange, they’re high off their own creation. Lead guitarist Serra Petale’s face screws up as she bangs her head like she’s itching a borderline orgasmic scratch. Her bright cumbia guitar tones paint an auditory vibration I felt on the apples of my cheeks. The fusion of traditional genres with modern psychedelia tickled the brain like the best kind of ASMR. Los Bitchos is almost impossible to put a finger on. Los Bitchos sound like cruising, top down in a convertible through a desert or dancing in the warm breeze of a summer’s night. Witnessing Los Bitchos perform was a spiritual experience that spoke to my senses without using words. How amazing is that?
