Kaytranada hosts Timeless dance party at WAMU

It was finally the night for the Timeless tour to take over Wamu Theater in Seattle and the energy was high. Kaytranada was bringing the eponymous tour supporting his third album release along with Channel Tres and Lou Phelps to open the show. Kaytra has been making a name in the industry for a few years with every release and collaboration making him more and more successful. He’s worked with some of the biggest names around and it’s no surprise considering everything he touches turns into gold.

Kicking off the event was Lou Phelps whose real name is Louis-Philippe Celestin, also Kaytra’s youngest brother. The brothers also have their own duo called Celestics but haven’t released something under that for a few years. It was early but he still turned up the energy in the room setting the mood for the rest of the night. Phelps would also return to join Kaytra onstage for their song, “Call U Up.”

Next up was another artist we’ve really enjoyed over the last few years. Channel Tres has been climbing the ladder quickly but again no surprise considering his fun performances and energy he brings to the stage. Sheldon Young aka Channel Tres released his debut record, Head Rush, this year after many singles and EPs making the rounds. Wearing a black tank top and black shades he strutted across the floor swinging his braids around. He was accompanied by his four dancers a few times who flawlessly executed their choreography.

Highlights included: Controller, Type, We Hungry, Impact, Topdown and Drip Sweat.

Kaytranada took the floor and instantly was ready to show everyone there why he was the only choice on this Friday night. The Grammy Award winner kicked off his set with “Pressure,” and got into it dancing around showing that he was also here to party with us. Louis Celestin who has made a solid name for himself with his eclectic collabs and remixes was here to give us a night to remember. This was the biggest electronic dance/R&B party that Seattle has seen in a while.

As hit after hit played on, Kaytra smiled and danced around in his dark shades. The visuals were immersive for the large space it filled, entertaining just as much as the music. The lights danced around with the music and people were glued to the stage wondering what would happen next. When we thought things had finished off Kaytra took the stage again wearing a Seahawks jersey throwing his hands up as the audience cheered for more. Channel Tres also wearing his custom Seahawks jersey joined and they finished the night with their collab, “Drip Sweat.” This was a huge party, and we were happy to be a part of it. Janet Jackson‘s “If” is one of my favorite songs and hearing his remix made my weekend.

Highlights included: CUFF IT, Meditation, All Night, Kiss It Better, 4EVA, and Witchy.
