Girlpool play last show in Seattle to adoring crowd
We’ve been following Girlpool since they released debut album, Before the World Was Big, and really liked their style. We’ve enjoyed and appreciated their growth and change and were stoked for their fourth and latest release, Forgiveness. A few weeks back they announced that after nine years as a band they would be parting ways and we were a little devastated but happy one of the dates that wasn’t cancelled was Seattle.
We headed to the Crocodile for the early show and we were feeling a little nostalgic and talking about the first time we caught them at Neumos back in 2017. Avery Tucker and Harmony Tividad have written so many words that so many of us related to. They are vulnerable and real and despite their young age it projects so much maturity and experience, like they have lived through so much already. Once it was time for them to take the stage they kicked off the set with newer “Dragging My Life Into a Dream,” “Junkie,” and “Lie Love Lullaby.”
Towards the middle of the set the two touring band members left the stage and Tucker and Tividad played a few songs for us alone. Tividad picked up her bass and Tucker shared that, “This is how it actually all started.” The stripped down versions of “It Gets More Blue,” “Cut Your Bangs,” “I Like That You Can See It,” and “See Me Now,” left the fans in awe. During “See Me Now,” Tucker played solo on her guitar and even Tividad sat down and took in the moment. This was a highlight of the show that left people speechless taking in Tucker’s emotional performance, almost like it was them who had written the words.
The encore finished with tracks from their album, Before The World Was Big, “Ideal World,” “Chinatown,” and “Cherry Picking.” What a night to experience with this incredible band. They leave everything on the stage for fans to experience with them and I’m going to miss that the most. Thank you for the music, Girlpool.
