G Flip: Dream Ride Come True

Seattle’s Showbox SoDo was electric on October 28 as G Flip rolled into town for their Dream Ride Tour, celebrating the release of their third studio album, Dream Ride. Known for their explosive energy and unapologetic authenticity, the Melbourne-born artist delivered a night that felt like a road trip through neon skies—equal parts party, catharsis, and community.

G Flip—Georgia Flipo—first captured hearts in 2018 with the viral single “About You,” a raw indie-pop anthem born from bedroom production. Their debut album About Us introduced vulnerability and grit, while 2023’s Drummer cemented their reputation as a percussive powerhouse. Now, Dream Ride marks a bold evolution: a cinematic, Springsteen-inspired soundscape infused with retro synths, sax solos, and queer swagger. It’s a record that feels like cruising down a highway at midnight—windows down, heart wide open.

From the moment G Flip hit the stage in a black cut-off tee, jeans, sunglasses, black hat, and cowboy boots, the tone was set: rockstar confidence with a playful twist. They launched into “Disco Cowgirl”, igniting the crowd with disco beats and country flair. For the second song, “Gay For Me”, G Flip waved a Pride flag while kicking and dancing—a joyful nod to their LGBTQIA+ roots.

The production was sleek yet intimate: drum kits with monitor screens flashing visuals and lyrics, a banner emblazoned with the G Flip logo, and lighting that shifted from hot pink to electric blue. By the third track, “I Don’t Wanna Regret”, a saxophone joined the mix, underscoring the album’s Springsteen homage.

Shortly after, G Flip paused to connect with the crowd, laying down their now-iconic concert rules:

  • Don’t be a dickhead
  • Support the LGBTQIA+ community
  • Shout out to the allies
  • Safety first (3 people fainted last time)
  • Love to those battling anxiety and depression who came out to the show for me
  • Shot out for anyone who came out to the show alone
  • Sing loud, dance hard, and set the mood

It was a moment of pure authenticity—echoing the same vibe from their unforgettable sold-out Neumos show a couple years ago.

The rest of the night was packed with unforgettable moments. “Cut His D*ck Off” brought playful drum banter between G Flip and the front-of-house team, followed by a blistering solo that showcased their percussive prowess. Later, an outfit change for “Big Ol’ Hammer” into khaki pants and a white cut-off tee kept the cowboy boots firmly in place, while a cinematic pause mid-song saw the band freeze as a saxophone was placed onstage before launching into the finale.

One of the most intimate highlights came when G Flip perched on a stool for an acoustic rendition of “Australia,” thanking fans for letting them live their dream. The main set closed with “Bed on Fire,” and the encore delivered a powerful one-two punch with “Worst Person of the Year” and the emotional closer “In Another Life.”

G Flip’s shows are more than concerts—they’re communal celebrations of identity, resilience, and pure fun. At Showbox SoDo, they proved once again why they’re one of the most compelling live acts today: blending musicianship, humor, vulnerability, and inclusivity without ever feeling forced. If Dream Ride is about cruising through neon nights, Seattle got the ultimate joyride.
