Faux Real talk about life and music

We had the opportunity to ask Faux Real some questions about life and music. The duo who is brothers Elliott and Virgil Arndt was founded in 2018. They’ve already have created a buzz around their incredible live performances and have released their debut record Faux Ever last week. We were smitten when we saw them at this year’s SXSW and further enabled our addiction seeing them live a few weeks back at the Crocodile. This is a group you want to keep an eye out and see live if possible. We have a feeling they’re going to be around for a while.

Where am I catching you?

Back home in Los Angeles after a few weeks on tour in the US & Canada.

How did Faux Real begin?

A tale as old as time – two teenage brothers playing drums & guitar in their parents’ garage. We decided to re-form the band about 5 years ago, when our separate projects came to a close.

How would you describe the music you make?

“Ourobouros pop for sisyphean metrosexuals.”

Who played an influence on your sound the most?

It’s impossible to isolate a single person – the thing that has influenced us the most is a lifetime of shared music – but also inside jokes, bad movies, and the theft of great art, to name a few.

How did the collaboration with indie label City Slang happen?

They were early supporters and fans of the project, so we met up in a forest in northern Germany a couple summers ago to talk shop, and voilà!

What are you looking most forward to with the release of your debut?

Knowing these songs can now live in other people’s heads and working on the next record.

What was the inspiration behind the record?

The chaos and joy of making music together and performing said music in countless settings.

Are you the creatives behind your live performances? Do you have a vision of how those should be?

We are the creatives behind everything we do, from the live shows to the artwork and music videos, and the music itself of course. The live performance came to be out of necessity – wanting to play shows on a tight budget with maximal energy – and developed a life of its own.

What do you want fans to know about you that they might not realize?

We are not only talented and driven, but also kind, smart and humble!

What are you listening to right now that you can’t stop thinking about?

“If I Could Sing” by Kirin J Callinan, “The 8th Cumming” by Cumgirl8, “Blood, Sweat and Damnation” by Izzy Spears, “Scarlet Lamb” by Yunè Pinku.
