Arlo Parks at Showbox SoDo
We found our way to Showbox SoDo to catch one of the most anticipated young stars from the last few years. The talented Arlo Parks was back in our town for the night, playing to a sold-out crowd and we weren’t missing it. After the release of her critically acclaimed debut, Collapsed in Sunbeams, in 2021 she’s been climbing charts and earning multiple nominations around the world. One of our favorite moments yet is when Parks joined Phoebe Bridgers at Glastonbury Festival 2022 to perform, “Graceland Too.“
Parks released her second record, My Soft Machine, last year and has been touring heavily to promote it. The new record brought even more success and solidified Parks in the music industry. Parks also released her debut poetry book, The Magic Border, last September which is filled with words and emotions we would all like to articulate as well.
Parks and her three-piece band took the floor shortly after nine and started their set with “Bruiseless,” “Weightless,” “Blades,” and “Caroline.” Parks smiled at her fans who were showing their devotion by singing all the words and enjoying the songs. She moved around the stage freely and effortlessly captivated with her undeniable talent. Parks paused a few times to interact with the audience and share stories behind inspiration of her tunes and everyone stood quietly to listen to every word.
Favorite moments included “Eugene,” “Too Good,” “Black Dog,” “Hurt,” and “Hope.” The main set ended with “Devotion,” as people cheered on in hopes of an encore. As Parks and her band appeared again everyone gladly applauded showing their appreciation for returning. The night ended with her hit, “Softly,” as people danced around one last time. We can definitely see why everyone is so obsessed with Parks and very excited to have her come back for Thing in August. This is an artist you don’t want to miss.
