Angel Olsen Charms at Residency Shows in Seattle
We headed to the Neptune to catch Angel Olsen on her last night of three sold-out shows, which also happened to be her last night of this tour. What an incredible way to end her tour sharing all the love from her fans with three full shows in Seattle. This would night was on the Saturday for Halloween weekend so many people went to the venue dressed up and ready to celebrate.
First up was Seattle’s own artist, talented Led to Sea, which is Alex Guy‘s project. We’ve loved seeing Guy through the years in Seattle playing with different bands, and her solo projects showing us her capabilities as a musician and songwriter. This was special as Guy is a current member of Olsen’s band, so she’s been also touring full time doing all that. Seattle would get her solo to start the night and then with Olsen once again.
Guy felt the love throughout the performance, thanked everyone for being there early along with her friends and her parents that were actually in the audience. That must’ve been so special for them to be at their daughter’s show and to witness her playing with Olsen these last few years. What made it even more special was that Olsen joined Guy and her band on stage for her last tune.
After a quick break it was time for Angel Olsen to take the floor and she came out dressed up as a nun. As people smiled and she smiled back she just said the words ‘God Bless’ and went on to start with “All Mirrors,” and “Spring.” After a couple songs she said, ‘Thank you for being here on this special night if it’s alright with you we’re going to continue playing some more hymns,’ as people laughed at her joke.
Olsen played a variety of songs from her six albums and people stood in the theater moving back-and-forth in a trance. Olsen stopped to chat saying that tonight was a little sad as the tour was coming to an end, and that they were so grateful to the people for being there and showing their love supporting the band. Olsen played a few songs solo including “Unfucktheworld,” “Right Now,” and “Some Things Cosmic.” Olsen kept having to fix her head habit as it would get in the way so before starting one of her songs, she stopped to fix it and joked with a fan about having to look good for their video in case it goes viral.
They returned for an encore playing “Woman,” and “Sister,” as people sang along to the songs. This really felt extra intimate especially with it being the last night and Seattle getting three nights to enjoy this talented musician with her band. I remember seeing her back at Sasquatch in 2015 at one of the smaller stages and this just proves how much she’s grown as an artist and build her career throughout the years and all the love she’s been receiving.
