Austra Enchants Seattle Crowd

On this very rainy Seattle night, we headed down to the Crocodile to catch one of our most anticipated live concerts announced. After a month of touring North America to mostly sold-out shows, Austra was in town supporting their third full length album, Future Politics. The synth pop project founded by Katie Austra Stelmanis in 2009 has continued captivating crowds, steadily growing with each release cycle.

The concert started off with “Year of Death” and “The Range” which built the anticipation with their electronic tunes and uplifting vibe. The excited crowd grew louder with every moment they expected the main act to take the floor and sure enough when they appeared behind the curtains they screamed with enthusiasm.

Stelmanis walked to the middle of the floor wearing an orange airy dress while the drummer Maya Postepski, bassist/keyboardist Dorian Wolf, and keyboardist Ryan Wonsiak, took their spots aside her. She traded between singing in the front and playing the keyboard/singing a few steps away.  The way her voice intermixed with the music was completely captivating and not much was needed to be said.  Stelmanis had no problem hitting highs and lows as she went through the set.

The night took off as the band played songs from their entire catalog as well as introducing the new tracks that were well received by the fans. Highlights of the night were, “I Love You More Than You Love Yourself“, “Utopia”, “Future Politics“, “I’m a Monster”, and “Forgive Me“. It was hard not to move your feet around on the ground as the songs and lights made it the ultimate dance floor. All the hype around them is totally worth it and if you can catch them in your town don’t waste the opportunity.
