The Knocks bring the party to The Showbox
We knew that it was going to be a good night when we walked into the Showbox Market because that is what The Knocks always bring. The New York duo not only knows how to turn it up but how to bring out the best vibes in every performance. They were in Seattle stopping by in support of their second album, New York Narcotic, released back in September. They’ve come a long way since they started back in 2010 and this album brought even more favorite songs along with incredible guest vocalists including, Method Man, Sir Sly, Alexis Krauss, Sofi Tukker, and Big Boi.
The night kicked off with Blu DeTiger who played bass along with programming her own beats to go along with it. It was a good way to start the dance party and later we noticed that she was also part of the full band for the main act. Right after we were introduced to Young & Sick who was very impressive to catch. Good music, great beats and a platform to showcase our dance moves. He just released his No Good EP and we really enjoyed seeing him perform as an opener and if you’re going to attend a show make sure to go early for him.
After the stage switch, everything was ready for the main course to step out into the lights. The duo this time around was joined by three live band musicians which brought more intrigue to their set. They each wore New York jerseys with their names on the back paired with a jacket that read New York Narcotic on the back. The lights were bright and the night was just starting off as they went on to play for almost two hours. This was a party and they did not hold back on anything and the audience loved every second of it.
The show felt like it kept getting louder and louder and the energy kept turning up as “Brazilian Soul,” “Best Friend,” Trouble,” and “Kiss the Sky” played on. For one of their new track, “Wizard of Bushwick,” Young & Sick joined them on stage to lend vocals and it was one of our favorite moments along with “Don’t Talk Love.” We kept moving as they played Cut Copy’s “Lights and Music” and went into hit, “Classic” as they finished their main set.
B-Roc and JPatt came out alone as JPatt slowed things down by playing on the piano and then closing out the night with “Ride or Die” their hit ft. Foster the People. It had been a couple of years since we last saw them perform but it was even better than we expected. They have really grown into their sound and have taken their live show to the next level by having a touring band join them. These guys know how to bring the party to each city they go and you should make sure you join them.
