Turnover Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary of Peripheral Vision

Turnover brought their tour supporting their breakthrough album, Peripheral Vision, to the Moore Theater in Seattle. For the first time in 10 years, the band played the album in its entirety. Opening up for the night was Horse Jumper of Love, a shoegaze alt indie band from Boston, MA. As the theater started to fill, Horse Jumper talked a little about their band, where they were from, and their time on tour with Turnover and Balance and Composure. Never hearing their music before, I felt their set perfectly got people ready for the next band. Highlights included, “Ugly Brunette,” “Orange Peeler,” “Hole,” and “Wink.”

I was introduced to Balance and Composure by my two friends who came with me to this show. We listened to their music on the way and one of my friends, Emma, has been a fan of them since she was in middle school. The band felt akin to the emo rock of the early 2000s I grew up with, bringing a nostalgic feel to their music. The lyrics mixed with the whiny nature brought me back to 2010, listening to post-punk in my dad’s garage. The band did an amazing job getting people off their feet. Moving around the stage, taking the mic, and switching guitars often created a dynamic set for almost anyone to enjoy. Highlights included, “Postcard,” “Body Language,” “Tiny Raindrop,” “Reflection,” and “Midnight Zone.”

Turnover‘s set started completely in the dark with just a few lights to highlight the stage. Pretty soon, the silhouettes of the band members started to pour through the sides of the stage, and the crowd was ready to go. Within just a few moments, the band started with the first song off of Peripheral Vision, “Cutting My Fingers Off.” The crowd was one of the best I’ve seen for a sit-down theater, not a single person was! After the first few songs, Turnover got to talking about the album, how making music with your friends can bring you all around the world, and what the music means to them.

Turnover thanked Seattle and continued their set playing favorites, “Dizzy On the Comedown,” “I Would Hate You If I Could,” “Humming,” and “New Scream.” By far my favorite song of the set was “Take My Head.” The sorrowful lyrics echoed through the crowd as almost everyone was singing the song. Turnover absolutely killed their show playing the album all the way through for the first time, and it’s a show I’ll never forget.
