Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs at Madame Lou’s
We had heard so much about the live performances by Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, we were so excited to get to Madame Lou’s and finally experience it. The British punk band was in town, and we were all in for a treat. The band formed in Newcastle back in 2012 and released their debut, Feed the Rats, in 2017. Their fourth record, Land of Sleeper, has taken them one step closer to mainstream, creating waves anywhere they perform.
It was an early show and there was no opener for the night so around 7pm we were thrown into the wild. Lead singer, Matthew Baty came to the stage in full force starting with new “Mr Medicine,” “Rubbernecker,” and “Halloween Bolson.” Dressed ready for a Muay Thai match he brought his best fighting self through the night projecting massive energy waves. It was hard to take your eyes off of him as he was demanding, now we know why there’s so much buzz around their live sets.
The rest of the band was just as energetic and playing a great show, with every tune getting more and more into it. Guitarist Sam Grant, bassist John-Michael Joseph Hedley, guitarist Adam Ian Sykes, and drummer Ewan Mackenzie, each added to the magic of Pigsx7. There was a lot of crowd surfing, a mosh pit and for sure many necks were hurting the next morning.
Baty stopped and chatted with the fans a few times and expressed how grateful he was for being here and made sure everyone was having a good time. He was putting in a great workout having to stop for water to keep up with his jumping around and constant moving. Their set included, “Ultimate Hammer,” “Ball Lightning,” “Terror’s Pillow,” and new “World Crush,” and “Big Rig.”
The time flew by as we all watched carefully for the next move the band would make and how that would steer the mood. This was for sure one of the greatest performances we’ve seen in the last couple of years and we can’t wait for this band to return to Seattle. They also stopped by KEXP for a live performance and I’m sure that’s going to be amazing when it’s out. The show closed out with audience favorite “A66,” as we all screamed the words hoping the night would not end.
