Miki Berenyi Trio at Madame Lou’s
The legendary Miki Berenyi who is best known as the lead singer/founder of the shoegaze icons, Lush, was at Madame Lou’s with her latest band, Miki Berenyi Trio. The live trio for this tour run included Piroshka collaborators Oliver Cherer on bass and Mick Conroy (Piroshka, Modern English) on guitar. The trio recently released their first official single, “Vertigo,” which was one of the first songs they wrote together.
The venue was packed with fans who were excited to hear some new songs along with Lush classics. The band took the stage and Berenyi commanded the room from the first song. She was calm, airy, beautifully paired with her satin voice taking us along for a ride.
The band covered a few Lush hits including “For Love,” “Ladykillers,” “Covert,” “Stray,” and “Leave Me Cold.” They also played some Piroshka, Moose, and the Gist that we all enjoyed. It was hard to believe Berenyi was standing so close to us with chatting and taking drags from her e-cig.
Berenyi recently released her acclaimed autobiography in the U.S. Fingers Crossed: How Music Saved Me From Success. The beautifully written memoir chronicles her experiences as a trailblazing woman in a popular band delivered with honesty, humor, and impeccable storytelling. We felt very lucky to be a part of this show and to catch this legend perform live.
