Goose at the Paramount Theater
There has been so much buzz around Goose, we couldn’t wait to catch the first night of their two sold out shows at the Paramount Theater. The jam band formed in 2014 currently consists of Peter Anspach, Jeff Arevalo, Ben Atkind, Rick Mitarotonda, and Trevor Weeks. There was not an opener on the bill, so we made sure to get there early enough to catch their jam session.
The stage was set up in five individual sections for each band member with a rug beneath their equipment. The background was left blank and there was a diamond like shape design for the lights above them. Very relaxing vibe to set the mood of the show. Fans were excited and dressed for the occasion ready to immerse themselves into the night.
The show started shortly before eight and the band noticed some audio difficulties as they took their places on stage. We were entertained by a couple members who did a little friendly push up competition and then they kicked off with a cover of Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone.” Next up they played their own “Animal,” and then “Lead Up,” that was not completed due to the PA issues.
After a short break and trying to fix the issue, they returned and started “Lead Up,” from the beginning. The fans were hoping that was the end of the issue but after playing “Flodown,” the band had to take another break. This time around it was much longer but they kept the audience updated on what was happening. They mentioned that they were trying to fix it but if they couldn’t this would be the last try and they would have to find another time to reschedule in order to play the best show they could.
Shortly before ten they returned for their 3rd set that was the lucky try being able to finish the show without any more issues. The lights paraded as the band got into the music and jammed out longer and longer with each song. We can see why they have made such an impression over the last few years selling out large venues like Radio City Music Hall and Red Rocks.
For their encore the band played “726” and “Dripfield” from their last record and the fans that were determined to stay enjoyed a night full of good tunes. The start was a bit rocky, but they stuck with the show and fixed the issue and people were happy to stay. It’s not common but these things do happen, especially when it’s a live show with so many factors that could go sideways. The band put their all into the night and we were happy to finally see them play in our city.
