girl in red is DOING IT AGAIN BABY!
We were thrilled to head to the Paramount Theater to catch girl in red for the second of two sold-out shows in Seattle. The project of Marie Ulven Ringheim was back in town supporting her first major-label album release, I’M DOING IT AGAIN BABY! and we made sure we were there. We’ve been charmed by her unique voice and charisma for years now and we couldn’t wait to hear some of our favorite tunes live.
The opening act was another favorite band who is having an amazing year already. The Beaches were returning to our city supporting the major tour and we made sure to be there early to hear them play. Their show at Neumos back in February this year supporting their Blame My Ex, tour was one of our favorites. The seven-song set was not enough for us, but we still got to hear our favorites “Edge of the Earth,” and scream in support for “Blame Brett.”
The talented four-piece band consists of sisters Jordan and Kylie Miller, Leandra Earl, and Eliza Enman-McDaniel and has caught the attention of the industry and we can’t wait to see what happens next. They won the 2024 Juno Award for Group of the Year and are continuing to captivate crowds wherever they perform.
It was time for girl in red to take the stage and what we instantly noticed was the amazing production of this tour in comparison to the last time we caught her at Showbox SoDo in 2022 for If I Could Make It Go Quiet tour. This was a massive stage with stairs in the middle leading to a large screen in the background. There was a large round piece to the left that resembled an old office lamp that changed colors and visuals throughout the set providing enhanced visual symmetry.
Ringheim kicked off the set with “DOING IT AGAIN BABY” with a large amount of energy running and jumping around the floor. This seemed like the correct amount of excitement an artist should have when starting, making sure the audience understands how the night will unfold. She quickly engaged with the devoted fans and even crowdsurfed early on her set causing chaos. “bad idea!” and “girls” followed to set the mood right as she stopped to banter a bit about her day in the city getting over her jetlag and watching Ratatouille on repeat.
The show flow fit very well with night as we heard favorites “October Passed Me By,” “we fell in love in october,” and newer “Phantom Pain,” “New Love,” “Too Much,” and “A night to remember,” which she dedicated to her girlfriend who she wrote it about. Fans screamed with excitement as they sang along to hits “You Stupid Bitch,” “Serotonin,” and “Did You Come?” Ringheim conducted the night in perfect harmony as she dimmed the mood for the slow songs and then turned up the energy for the faster ones.
The most memorable part of the show was when she split the crowd in two down the middle of the floor and she jumped in and walked down to the end of the room. She guided people to remain in opposite sides until she went into the chorus of “You Need Me Now?” running back to the stage while fans behind her filled the space resembling a wave. This is what it’s all about at her shows as she makes them so personal and fun. It’s no surprise Taylor Swift picked her as one of her opening acts for The Eras Tour in 2023. We’re so happy we had the opportunity to catch her perform once again and check out her new songs.
