Ghostland Observatory at the Crocodile

We were thrilled to see the announcement that one of our favorite live duos was coming through Seattle again after a long time. If you’ve ever been to a Ghostland Observatory show, you know that they need no introduction because their shows speak for themselves. The music duo formed back in 2003 by Aaron Behrens and Thomas Ross Turner, took the scene by surprise and captivated crowd with each release. From the moment I first caught them, I knew that there wouldn’t be a time they came through that I wouldn’t want to be at their shows. They are lively, they are fun, there is loud music and there is a laser show. What is there not to like? Last time we saw them was at the Showbox Market in 2018 after the release of See You Later Simulator.

We headed to The Crocodile to catch one of their legendary shows hoping it wouldn’t be different from what we remembered last. The night started off with local dj Gold Chisme who set the mood for the show. We enjoyed listening to the tunes she played and the overall vibe she had going on. She’s playing Bumbershoot this weekend so stop by and check her out if you’re there.

A little after nine it was time for the duo to take the floor and it was nice to see their silhouettes form on the stage. Behrens dressed in black with his signature pigtails and sunglasses and Turner in his vampire cape. Turner took his place behind the synthesizers that were placed a little higher and Behrens stood in the middle of the floor ready to make us all dance.

The show was just as entertaining as ever, and we were happy to see that they still have the same vibe going and that people all around were having a blast. Behrens once more showed us his impeccable dance moves whenever he got the chance unless he was playing the guitar. The lasers danced all night with the music and even though it was a Tuesday night people gave it their all.

When they returned for their encore Behrens thanked the fans for being there and acknowledged how nice it was to have them back in a room together after so long. He shared that Seattle was always one of their favorite stops and thanked KEXP for helping them in the beginning of their career, something they never forget.

They went on to play “Give Me the Beat,” “Sad Sad City,” and “Life of the Party,” ending their set on a high note and with people energized. They went on to play a new song and shared that they have a new album dropping next year and they would be back soon again. Keep an eye out because you want to make sure you attend one of their shows but don’t forget your sunglasses.
