Allie X Gives ‘Girl with No Face’ to Seattle Crowd
People packed the Crocodile in Belltown to catch the sold-out show for one of the most talked about artists of the year. Allie X has been on the rise for a while but her new album Girl with No Face, has blown up in the cosmos and everyone wants a piece. Alexandra Hughes has been in the industry since the mid-2000s but her move to LA in 2013 changed things and helped to build a successful following. We knew this performance would be one of the best of 2024, and we were right.
Allie X took the floor and dominated the room for the duration of the show which felt so short as we danced to her catchy songs. Dressed in a black dress with a headpiece and high black leather boots she looked like she came out of a Disney movie for adults. Allie X was so animated in her art expressing the emotions that went along with each song, guiding us in a carefully crafted visual experience. The floor fans were perfectly placed as she moved around the stage between her brightly lit keyboard and the front facing her adoring fans.
People were singing along from the first verse all the way to the end creating a sweet synergy in the room of everyone who were there to enjoy themselves. Allie X started the night with “Hardware Software,” “Bitch,” “Black Eye,” and “Weird World.” She moved through classics and new favorites as people moved around and got into the show. It had been a while since I’ve seen such an attentive crowd and felt so great in a space. Hughes took the opportunity to chat with the fans whenever she could and even answered questions about her outfit during a pause to get a new cord for her bassist. She was electric, charismatic, magnetic and charming during her performance and we all wanted more when it ended.
The whole night was a highlight but for me the top moment was “Galina,” her smooth pop song that sounds like an 80s hit if you didn’t know better. Allie X started the song on her keyboard slowly then kicked into the music as people sang along together. Such high energy and amazing tune to dance to. Her main set ended with “Off With Her Tits,” or as she called it, ‘The c*ntiest song I’ve written.’
When Allie X and her two band members left the stage people kept chanting “Allie, Allie, Allie,” to summon her back for more songs. The star returned and played the catchy “Casanova,” her song with another favorite of ours, Verite. She went on to play “Paper Love,” and end with “Girl of the Year,” which is what she will probably be in 2024. Do not sleep on catching her live if you can, Allie X is one show you must join if you like a good time.
