070 Shake at Showbox SoDo
The mysterious and ever captivating 070 Shake was in Seattle playing songs from her third record, Petrichor. The Showbox SoDo filled up with dedicated fans ready to spend their Valentine’s Day with the talented musician. Danielle Balbuena AKA 070 Shake has intrigued the music industry since her first recordings and in 2016 she signed with GOOD Music, Kanye West‘s record label. Shake also had guest appearances on a couple of tracks from Ye, West’s eighth album.
When it was time for 070 to take the stage, we noticed that a large drape was covering the stage and would remain there for the entirety of the set. Behind the drape is where the band was set up and that’s where 070 started her set with the Intro. This provided the cool effect of shadows being displayed and a focus on the sound.
Shake came to the front for “Sin” as fans cheered on seeing her for the first time and taking it in. She continued with “Elephant,” as the audience sang along to the words swaying back and forth. Before starting the next track, she stopped and said hello to the fans and also requested a cigarette. People happily obliged and threw a pack her way as she thanked them and then also asked for a lighter. She thanked everyone for coming out and being there even though it’s Valentines Day, and noted how much it meant to her.
It was such a vibe to watch her perform and take cigarette drags onstage. Shake is so committed to her music, and she exhumes this to her audience, making them feel the same way. A highlight from the night was when she pulled someone from the audience onstage and performed “Cocoon” as they danced in the background. How amazing that must have felt for them being able to have that experience with someone they enjoy so much. They danced around together as the strobe lights flashed making them look like still frame images every few seconds.
070 brought another fan onstage for the next track and even went and stood on the barrier to get closer to the fans as they all sang together. This was another highlight seeing her influence in the room. People were having a great time, and she was loving it. She took a moment and brought things down next singing “Blue Velvet” alone sitting on a stool.
The set ended with the memorable “Guilty Conscience,” and a very powerful “Love,” that she talked about a little bit. She mentioned that it was the last song on the record and it’s very special to her because as she was writing and thinking about things she kept coming back to one thing, and that was love. The way she summed it up was beautiful and honest, “One thing is true and that’s that we all won’t be here one day, so remember, love is the ultimate force in the universe.”
